But WAIT! I have an excuse. First, there are only 24 hours in the day, and I’m a human with a full-time job. But, second, and most importantly…

I won NaNoWriMo!

Na-No-huh? If you aren’t a writer, or even if you are, you may not have heard of this before. National Novel Writing Month (hence the acronym) is every November. The goal is to write 50,000 words from November 1st with a deadline of November 30. I started with some major planning, plotting, and outlining in October. Since this is the first time I’ve ever attempted a piece of fiction, I had a lot of learning and reading to do. But it did it, starting writing on November 1, and I finished last night, about 5 minutes before the Walking Dead mid-season finale (phew!). It’s supposed to be one cohesive piece of fiction, but there are plenty of NaNo Rebels who write non-fiction, short stories, or whatever. The NaNo peeps embrace eccentricities. Which is good since there are a lot of those when it comes to writers.

I started on a historical fiction piece with a little nod to Bram Stoker (aka: non-sparkly vampires). It’s no where near done and absolute junk at the moment, but that’s the whole point: to get a massive chunk of a first draft done in a month. I’m setting it aside for the moment to give it time to marinate before jumping back in. So, I’m back!

What’s Next?

As November ends and the Christmas season enters (despite 70+ degree weather here in grand ole Bama – this is warm even for us), I’m focusing back on my health.

So many people choose to wait until January to get their health in order, making it a New Year Resolution. Well, I have an End-Of-The-Year Resolution to lose the 5 lbs I gained while focusing on writing and stuffing my face with pumpkin pie and cookies. That’s okay. Priorities. I met a really hard writing goal. A little extra sugar was necessary.

The good news: The Master’s Hammer and Chisel workout program comes out tomorrow from Beachbody! I’m super excited about this new program. I’ve been blending 21 Day Fix, Fix Extreme, and Body Beast for a while now, and that’s pretty much what this program does. I’m getting the program the second it launches and am going to start immediately using the Beachbody On Demand capabilities. The diet portion involves the color-coded containers used in 21 Day Fix, so I’ve already got those. I can access all the videos and booklet information on the website until my program comes in the mail. Perfect!

The program is a 60 day timeline, and I’m not starting a full 60 day cycle just yet. I want to test the program from now until Christmas, learning the eating plan, the workouts, etc. And then, on January 4, I’ll be launching my New Year’s Resolution Challenge Group! It’s going to have a special focus on the new program, but challengers are welcome to join in with any program for the accountability and support. It’s more important to have the program that works for YOU than the most popular or newest one out there.
